Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has been on a media tear as of late to promote the band’s newest album, ‘Oceania.’ Although the musical mastermind has taken his media opportunities to air some of his grievances about … well, everyone ever, Corgan just took part in a more light-hearted interview — talking about his ideal dinner guest, his strangest celebrity encounter, the song he wants played at his funeral and more.

During the intimate interview with Exclaim.ca, Corgan chose two of rock’s most legendary musicians as his ideal dinner guests. “John Lennon’s probably one of my great heroes,” begins Corgan. “So, John Lennon or Jimi Hendrix, and I’d serve them the one thing I can make, which is beef stew. Hope you like it, John and Jimi.”

He also spoke about is strangest celebrity encounter, which in this case, involved an eclectic mix of personalities. “One night that leaps to mind,” Corgan recalls. “I was in a room with Howard Stern, Marilyn Manson, Jenna Jameson, Sherman Hemsley, Flavor Flav and Conan O’Brien. Now there’s a party mix in the seventh ring of hell.”

Finally, when asked what song Billy Corgan would like to have played at his funeral, the Smashing Pumpkins frontman picked an alt-rock classic. “Probably one of my own,” says the frontman. “I’m going out putting myself over. I don’t know what song I’d pick…probably something incredibly ironic, like “Today”. There he is lying in the casket, “Today is the greatest day.” [Chuckles].”

The Smashing Pumpkins’ eighth studio album, ‘Oceania,’ is now available for your listening pleasure.
