Well, this is not exactly how I would have imagined the situation playing out ... but okay then.

Generally when I think of  "small yipping dog" vs. bear my immediate thought would be something like "Nice to know ya small yipping dog" turns out in this scenario I would be completely incorrect in my assumptions.

News 10 is reporting that a woman called Schoharie County 911 dispatchers to report that she had come across a bear eating bird seed on her front porch. She went on to say that once she realized what was going on she let her small dog to sniff out the situation and apparently the dogs incessant "yipping" must have frightened the bear or something because next thing you know it was high up in her tree and it didn't look like it was planning on coming down anytime soon. Or at least while all that yipping was going on.

The sheriffs department showed up after the call to 911 and contacted the DEC who basically told them all to go back to their lives and leave the poor bear alone and it should come down on it's own. Which it did. So the bears okay and I now have a new found (temporary) appreciation for small loud dogs. Hey it managed to do that protecting thing that they say dogs are supposed to be good for. That's more than I can say for the pit/boxer mix at my place, but if I'm ever in need of a BFF or some cuddles that girl is down!
