Slipknot Drummer Joey Jordison Reveals New Project Scar the Martyr

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has lifted the mask on a new side project he’s been working on called Scar the Martyr. With a yet-to-be-named debut album due out in the fall, Jordison was able to expand his musical horizons with this new collaboration. In addition to playing drums, he also recorded the bass and rhythm guitars parts for the debut.

He couldn’t play every instrument though, so he surrounded himself with some great talent. He’s joined by lead vocalist and co-writer Henry Derek, keyboardist Chris Vrenna (who previously played drums for Nine Inch Nails), former Strapping Young Lad guitarist Jed Simon and former Darkest Hour guitarist Kris Norris to round out the project.

With a rock sound described as pulling elements from both industrial and post-punk genres, Jordison spoke about his new creative endeavor. “With this project, I focused my efforts on writing for the better of the song,” said Jordison. “I wasn’t worried about flash or persona … It’s all about writing a good solid song. I’m writing music that people can grasp and hold on to … something that resonates. If you don’t have that, then you have nothing.”

The upcoming Scar the Martyr release was recorded at Sound Farm Studios in Des Moines, Iowa, and produced by Rhys Fulber, whose resume includes work with Rob Zombie, Fear Factory and Mindless Self Indulgence, just to name a few.
