A shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon in Albany just hours after Gov. Andrew Cuomo made an announcement at the Albany Public Library about State Police stepping up patrols in areas plagued by gun violence.

According to the Times Union, the shooting occurred at 1:30pm (3 hours after Cuomo's announcement) when a 26 year old man was shot in the thigh in West Hill. He was taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not know if the shooting was connected to the Cuomo visit and his discussion on gang violence. 10 troopers will join the city's fleet of 342 cops to patrol high crime neighborhoods, where Albany's highest rates of violent crime take place. Cuomo also discussed the ongoing heroin and opioid epidemic and two state-funded programs designed to help fight gun violence: Albany Cure Violence and Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative, which is now in it's fourth year.
