Shinedown has been hard at work on their follow-up to 2012's 'Amaryllis' and drummer Barry Kerch says they have somewhere around 30 songs ready to go.

Kerch recently spoke with Pulse Of Radio saying:

There's quite a bit of material out there, it's just, is it gonna work? Is it gonna flow with whatever that record's sound is at that time?

Because really, records are a time capsule of what you're going through at that period in your life, so once you start piecing that together, even if it's a good song or a song that you really like, is it gonna fit on this record man?

You have to go through that whole process. It can be painstaking for sure, but in the end you get a great record.

Though the band is making progress on their 5th studio album, the fan voted acoustic covers album is currently in limbo thanks to one unwilling artist. The set was to feature versions of songs from The Clash, Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Bon Jovi. However, Jon Bon Jovi has reportedly refused to give permission to Shinedown to record their own version of 'Wanted Dead or Alive'.

So what will come of the covers album? Only time will tell. As for the album of new material from Shinedown, we should see that sometime later this year.
