Shaq, The Diesel, Shaq Fu, The Big Daddy, Superman, The Big Shaqtus, or even The Big Shamrock, whatever you want to call him is hanging them up. After 19 years, 4 championships and many laughable quotes the ‘Big Man’ has announced that he is calling it quits with a video on a social media outlet.

Shaq has always been one of my favorite players in the league because he wants to win, but he has fun too. I remember watching Shaq grow from a guy who (when he was in Orlando) could really only dunk the ball. Granted he could dunk it like no one else as this unstoppable force, but it wasn’t that impressive to me when it seemed that was his only offensive threat. But when he became Laker is when he really started to grow developing some nice little moves, a soft hook of the backboard and also becoming a great passer as well.

Shaq also brought fun no matter where he went. You see guy likes Kobe, who just never appear to be happy and then you get guys like Shaq who even though sometimes he might talk real, real low and sound serious, but then flash that Magic Johnson type smile that can light up the room.

It would have been great if he was healthy this year and perhaps won another ring with the Celtics, and even better if it somehow came against the Lakers. But it wasn’t meant to be. Either way, rock on Big Daddy and you will be missed.
