In another week of exploration, Northeastern Abandoned Exploration photographer Dan Laroe has captured amazing photos of the abandoned Hudson River State Hospital.

The hospital is located about an hour-and-a-half south of Albany in Poughkeepsie and Laroe's eerie images give us some idea of what the building looked like during better times. As our sister station WPDH reported, the hospital became New York State's second insane asylum in 1871.

More than 6,000 patients, doctors and nurses once filled the building's now-dilapidated hallways during the hospital's peak in the 1950s. The hospital closed its doors in 2003.

Laroe, a Capital Region resident, photographs abandoned buildings throughout the northeast as a hobby. Check out more photos from the Hudson River Hospital, and other cool buildings in the northeast, on his Facebook page.
