Sadly, Scott Weiland did not make it to his 50th birthday, dying on Nov. 3, 2015 at the age of 48. But his children managed to mark the occasion this past week by creating a special playlist of songs that reminded them of their father on what would have been the big Five-0.

Weiland's 17-year-old son Noah and 15-year-old daughter Lucy put together the playlist, which includes a mixture of their dad's own recordings as well as some of his personal favorites from other artists. In a Facebook posting announcing the "Songs That Remind Me of My Dad" playlist, Weiland's offspring also offered their commentary on each of the tracks in the playlist.

There are touching, personal anecdotes like Lucy revealing that "Cinnamon" was her favorite Stone Temple Pilots song and being told it was inspired by her mom. She also reminisced about rehearsing Weezer's "Island in the Sun" for her 5th grade talent show while her dad watched on.

Noah reveals he feels a kinship to Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends," explaining, "This song is about Billie [Joe Armstrong] losing his dad, and even before I lost my dad I always felt connected to it." Noah also calls out "Too Cool Queenie" as one of his favorite and STP's most underrated songs.

Both kids say that they are thrilled to include Weiland's cover of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," adding, "We are so lucky to still have him with us on Christmas morning. This song feels almost like he’s talking to us."

Weiland's 50th birthday would have been Oct. 27. You can read Lucy and Noah's full commentary on each of their songs here and check out the Spotify playlist below.
