It might comes as no surprise to some, but according to new data from Schenectady ranks among the Top 20 'Most Dangerous Small Cities' in America.

Movoto looked at 200 cities with resident numbers between 50,000 and 75,000. From there, they compiled data and ranked the cities based on the following:

  • Burglary
  • Theft
  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Murder
  • Rape
  • Robbery
  • Assault

They took the above to created four different crime groups: violent crimes, property crimes, murder, and total crimes. With that they gave rankings to each city based on those four groups and created a total score.

Wilmington, DE ranked number 1 on the list but the state of Florida had four cities in the Top 10.

  5. North Little Rock, AR
  6. Pensacola, FL
  7. Daytona Beach, FL
  8. Homestead, FL
  9. Lauderhill, FL
  10. Warner Robins, GA

Schenectady ranked just outside the Top 10 coming in at 11. That's in part of the 1 in 19 chance of a crime happening according to Motovo. Other odds for Schenectady:

  • 1 in 24 chance of property crime
  • 1 in 106 chance of violent crime
  • 1 in 9,519 chance of murder
