Russian Killer Calls for Pussy Riot’s Release

The bodies of two women slain in Russia have been found underneath a note calling for the release of the jailed members of Pussy Riot, according to authorities. Although investigators into the double homicide caution that the killer may have been just trying to distract police by bringing up the name of the jailed punk band, other Russian media have played up the possible connection between Pussy Riot supporters and the crime.

Some publications even went so far as running headlines claiming that Pussy Riot supporters had “committed” or “inspired” the double homicide.

Three members of the band were recently convicted of hooliganism for performing a so-called “punk prayer” while inside a Moscow church earlier this year, sparking off a worldwide backlash that has called for the release of the three jailed Pussy Riot members.

Nikolai Polozov, attorney for the jailed band members, later posted a note on Twitter stating that “what happened in Kazan is horrible” and called the connection between two deaths  ”either a horrendous provocation or a psychopathic” case, the AP reports. He was later quoted as saying to the Interfax news agency: I ”am sorry that some freaks are using Pussy Riot’s band name.”
