Lou Reed and Stevie Ray Vaughan are among the nominees announced for possible induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Sting, War and Bill Withers are also among the nominees.

The nominees were announced this morning, and the list includes a couple of new candidates -- Green Day and Nine Inch Nails -- who were eligible for the first time this year, since artists' first recordings must be at least 25 years old before they can be nominated.

Rounding out this year's list of nominees are disco hit-makers Chic, German electronic-rock pioneers Kraftwerk, Motown's the Marvelettes, rap legends N.W.A, alt-rock kings the Smiths and '70s R&B champs the Spinners.

Both Reed and Sting are already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for their work in the bands the Velvet Underground (class of 1996) and the Police (2003), respectively. This is Sting's first time to be nominated as a solo artist; Reed was previously nominated in 2000 and 2001.

A panel will vote on these nominees soon, and the five artists with the most votes will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next April. Fans are also allowed to vote again this year. The winner will get one vote among the 700 ballots cast. The ballot is up at Rolling Stone. You can vote until Dec. 9. The inductees will be announced shortly after.
