I got the chance to chat with Robert Ortiz, drummer for rock quintet Escape the Fate for the second time within a year and he shared with me who his dream super group would be if he ever decided to form one.

As I watched my reflection in Robert's glasses I asked him what he would be doing if he weren't a musician. "Probably physical fitness or training," he replied. Even though music is his hobby as well as his job, he has always enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and also likes to work out. He especially likes the punching bag, so he wouldn't mind being a boxer and getting "to beat people up for a living." He mentioned that he has even met a few pro fighters who are fans of ETF, which he said was the coolest thing. He doesn't get a chance to work out much on tour because he doesn't always get a lot of sleep, which is "a priority;" but living on a bus and all doesn't always present the best sleeping opportunities, so he takes what he can get.

I then asked Robert if he could form a super group who would be his ultimate line-up. After pondering for a minute, he said he would want Duff McKagan on bass because he's such a good musician but he's "not all in your face." On guitar he would want Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold, and Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) on vocals. He would also like to work with James Hetfield of Metallica, but only for something such as a ballad. Sounds like a dream team to me!

As for a life motto, Robert refers back to "fear nothing but God." "God is on my side," he said, so "I'm not scared of shit!"
