Police in Colonie have reportedly gathered outside the home a of a suicidal man, causing a street closure.

According to the Times Union, a scene is unfolding on today (Feb. 12) off of Albany Shaker Rd., involving a man that threatened to commit suicide. A group of officers are said to be gathered outside one of the homes. No further information is available.

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. with 44,965 deaths per year. For every suicide, 25 attempt and suicide costs the U.S. 69 billion annually. In 2016, the highest suicide rate was among adults between the ages of 45 and 54, at 19.7 %. The second highest rate was among those 85 years and older at 19%. Adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 had a suicide rate 12.5%. There is always help out there.
