3D films are all the rage these days, but who’s to say that special effects can only be used in movies? San Francisco-based group Primus recently unveiled plans for their upcoming 3D tour in late 2012 — the first tour of this kind since Kiss‘ Psycho Circus Tour back in 1998.

The tour will kick off in the fall, and the band aims to perform an ambitious double set each night. Complete with the enhancement of quad surround sound, these shows promise to be unique and all-encompassing.

Primus’ latest studio album, ‘Green Naugahyde,’ is the band’s first full-length record since 1999. It was produced by frontman and bassist Les Claypool in own studio, Rancho Relaxo (where he also produced his various solo records). Their new music — along with these innovative tour plans — prove that despite taking their time between albums, they are back with renewed energy and fresh creative visions.

The 3D tour dates have not been released, but it has been reported that more details will be shared on July 30. For more information, visit the band’s official website.
