A popular deli/butcher shop in Albany closed this week.

According to The Times Union, Chester's Smokehouse closed abruptly this week. A message was posted on the business Facebook page (see below). Chester's opened in June 2015 and was located at Watervliet Ave and always seemed to do good business. The website describes Chester's Smokehouse as a hub for handcrafted, artisan smoked meats and cheeses along with a fully stocked deli case of sausages, bacon, liverwurst, pork chops, hot dogs and more. They offered made to order sandwiches and entrees for lunch and dinner and specialized in authentic, custom, old world style meat. No reason was given for the closing, although co-owner and founder Marl Altarak passed away in January of this year. A closed sign is now on the front door and no other information is available.

Did you shop at Chester's Smokehouse? Will you be missing Chester's and how do you feel about the closing?
