It's Presidential Primary Day in New York State which means that you can vote for which candidate you like to represent your registered party. I've been noticing a lot of confusion going on surrounding the process today and I can totally sympathize because to be honest I haven't a.) voted in New York state, ever and b.) voted since college so I had to do a bit of research myself to figure out how things went down and I thought I'd share my findings should you find yourself asking them same questions.

First off, in order to actually vote in the presidential primaries in New York State you would have needed to preregister either Democrat or Republican and have been register for at least 30 days. If you are registered as an Independent and try to vote they will take the vote and send it to the board of elections too see if it will count but it will probably prove frivolous seeing as NYS has had closed primaries for quite some time.

If you are a registered Republican you would be voting for either Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, or Ohio Gov. John Kasich to be your Republican candidate.

If you a registered Democrat you would be voting for either former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont to be your Democrat Candidate.

The NYS board of elections should have sent you a letter with your polling location (where you need to go to cast your vote) and all the info you should need but if you didn't receive one you can find your polling place by clicking HERE.

Polls opened at noon today in the Capital Region and will be open until 9PM tonight (Tuesday April 19th, 2016).

I've heard it's been a bit busy (and slightly chaotic) at some spots in the region so make sure to give yourself enough time and try to be patient. Remember most people working the polling stations are volunteers.

That's all I got so I hope you find it helpful. If we don't vote I suppose we can't complain so if you registered accordingly please don't forget to get to the polls and make your vote count!
