‘Pet Sematary’ Remake Brought Back to Life With Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo

Paramount Pictures first announced a ‘Pet Sematary’ remake years ago with talks of setting Alexandre Aja (‘The Hills Have Eyes’) in the director’s chair. Now after all this time the studio is finally settling on the man to take the helm.

According to Variety, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who directed and wrote the screenplay for ’28 Weeks Later,’ is in talks to tackle the new ‘Pet Sematary,’ a remake of the original 1989 film and based on the classic Stephen King horror novel.

The original was directed by Mary Lambert and starred Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne, telling the story of how a cemetery next to the home of a young family had the power to bring those resting within it back from the dead. On an $11 million budget, ‘Pet Sematary’ brought in $57 million, an attractive quality for any studio looking to bring back successful films to the limelight. Considering such hit horror titles of the past year as ‘The Purge‘ and ‘The Conjuring‘ were made with on relatively small budgets with higher payoffs, could a ‘Pet Sematary’ remake have the same success?

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider have been attached to the remake since it was first announced, along with Matt Greenberg, who’s wrote the script with David Kajganich. Check out the trailer for the original below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
