Pies and Thanksgiving go hand and hand. Just like alochol and the holidays are like the bread and butter to each other. So why not put them together and have the best of both worlds! A pie with some liquor in it. Just like my grandma used to make.

Melissa Clark's Spiced Pecan Pie with Star Anise

FOR THE PIE CRUST
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

10 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into ½-inch pieces

2 to 5 tablespoons ice water
FOR THE FILLING
1 cup maple syrup 1/2 cup Demerara or raw sugar

8 whole star anise

2 cups pecan halves

3 large eggs

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted

2 tablespoons dark aged rum (or I'd say the whole bottle but thats up to you)

1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

then finally top it with some whipped cream
