I don't normally get too into serious topics with my blogs because I feel the news is enough of the scary depressing parts of life for me but this is hitting real close to home now.

According to News10 officials have confirmed a case of the Zika virus here in Albany County. It's scary to think that this thing has hit the states let alone our county and I'm really hoping that this doesn't escalate like things did with the Ebola virus situation. So if we could somehow find a cure or vaccine or something soon that would be great.

Apparently the health department says that the woman infected had recently traveled to a Zika infected region and that she is not pregnant which is one of the big concerns of the virus seeing as though it causes some major brain developmental issues on an unborn baby.

Officials also aren't too concerned because mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus aren't in the U.S. ... yet. They do note however, if you are a traveler or are trying to start a family in the coming months you should take precaution.

I guess currently there are 189 recorded cases of the Zika Virus in New York State mainly in NYC but we had previously had another in the Capital Region out of Schenectady.

To be honest I'm not really sure what it even means for a person to have this virus that isn't expecting because all of the reports of symptoms I've seen in the news seem to be related to the babies. However, if you have any questions New York State has set up a Zika Information Helpline at 1-888-364-4723 or you can visit the website for more information on it.
