Nikki Sixx: Motley Crue’s Las Vegas Residency Will Launch Biggest Years of Career

Nikki Sixx has gone on record to say that Motley Crue‘s residency in Las Vegas, which will launch in February and run for three weeks, is only scratching the surface of what he believes “will be the biggest probably four to five years of the band’s career.”

This comes hot on the heels of Vince Neil’s statements that the residency could be the end of his tenure with the Crue. Are the guys simply not communicating? Is Neil being contrary for contrary’s sake? Is he trying to drum up publicity? It’s anyone’s guess when it comes to rock’s baddest boys.

Sixx continues, telling Rolling Stone, “We’re negotiating with a couple of other extremely huge bands on doing a co-headline tour, something that’s never happened before. There’s new music in the future.” That’s a lot of activity in Camp Crue.

But a massive tour and new music is just the tip of the iceberg for the Crue, depending on who you are listening to. If you’re paying attention to Sixx, as opposed to Neil, well, there’s also a Crue movie in the works.

“We finally got everything in order the way it needs to be done, and that’s gonna happen,” the bassist reveals. He would not go into specifics, pertaining to directors and such, but did say that it will be based on ‘The Dirt’ and it will happen. We’re curious as to how they’ll get that cinematic masterwork past the censor board with anything other than an NC-17 rating! Sixx declares, “But trust me, when I say the wheels are in motion they’re definitely in motion.” Point taken, Nikki.

Sixx did echo some of Neil’s sentiments, but he clearly has a different expiration date for the band than Neil does. He says, “The band sat down and had a powwow as brothers and friends and guys who’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and we said, ‘When is it time?’”

He continues, “We’ve always said since we were kids we didn’t want to hobble in to the sunset. So after the movie, at some point – whether it’s within a year or a few years – we’re probably gonna have that conversation about maybe it’s time, maybe it’s time to go out on top.”

It’s true that Sixx doesn’t want to limp into the sunset (blvd.) He said that he wants to maintain some level of heightened status before retiring. “If I’m watching my favorite boxer and he’s just won the heavyweight championship of the world and he retires it kind of makes the guy a legend,” he explains. “I always respected Led Zeppelin, and I’d rather Motley Crue be thought of as that type of band rather than a band that’s just going through the motions.”

He also said everyone of his band brothers is “100 percent engaged” in the process. We’re guessing he didn’t read Neil’s comments, which he made while on a yacht, mind you.
