Resorts World Catskills has opened their doors today, Feb. 8.

We reported last month that according to Lohud.com, Resorts World Catskills announced that doors would open Thursday, Feb. 8 at 8am, opening ahead of it's original schedule.

The $1 billion facility was initially scheduled to open on March 1. It's been a 40 year wait for a full-scale casino in the Catskills, and World Resorts Catskills president Ryan Eller is hopeful that the new casino will bring people back to the area. The Catskill area was once a booming tourist region for New York City residents who would make the 90 mile trip to the Mountains to get away from the everyday city life. "Our staff has worked tirelessly to ensure that when we open our doors for the first time, we will be ready to provide our guests with unparalleled experience," Eller said.

The facility will features 150 table games and over 2000 slot machines along with clubs and restaurants. The Casino is also set to feature a resort with 332 luxury rooms, an entertainment village, an 18-hole golf course, and an indoor waterpark that is set to open in 2019. The casino is located in Thompson, NY (Sullivan County) at the old Concord resort. Looks like exciting times for the Catskills. Do you plan on visiting New York's largest casino?
