The Times Union recently posted about famous bands and musicians from upstate and western New York.  It was amazing to see the amount of noteable and talented musicians that have come from New York, in all different genres.  Focusing on the Capital District, there were some pretty great names, including:

Phantogram: a highly successful alt-rock band originally from Saratoga Springs (and a great live show- which I can attest to!)

State Champs: another successful act, except pop-punk.  They're originally from Albany and have played with some big names in their genre

Maria Brink:  vocalist of In This Moment [whom I got to interview (check it out here)] and someone who I feel is one of the strong female rock vocalists of this generation. She's from Schenectady and now touring the world.

Pat Gerasia- drummer of rock band Red Sun Rising (who rocked Jupiter Hall this year- check out the review here)- from Albany!

Scott Underwood- a former musician in the band Train, comes from Saratoga Springs.

There are TONS more musicians from around New York at the Times Union site, and definitely worth checking out.

A few names I think should've been added?  The Capital District's very own Moriah Formica, who is making a name for herself as a strong female rock presence.  Also, Youth in Revolt's Chris Coletti- an Albany bred guitarist who now rocks across the country for Youth in Revolt, signed to Outerloop Records.  I was able to chat with him and post about his rock journey, which you can check out here.

I love seeing live music around Albany, but I have to say, I love even more how much we rock as a whole- with some great musicians bred right here in the Capital District!
