This should come as no surprise after last week's Gallup Poll on states with the most people wanting to leave, but New York ranks as the third most expensive state to live in.

The Commerce Department released a report calculating the prices of good including food, housing, etc to see which states and regions were the cheapest and highest to live in. New York ranked third on the most expensive.

  1. District of Columbia
  2. Hawaii
  3. New York
  4. New Jersey
  5. California
  6. Maryland
  7. Connecticut
  8. Massachusetts
  9. Alaska
  10. New Hampshire

Last week a Gallup Poll was released asking a variety of questions of the state in which people lived in. The number one reason for people to get out of New York? The cost of living (20%), which is reinforced by the state being third most expensive in the country.

So if you are one of the 41% of New Yorkers that want out, what's the cheapest state to move to? Mississippi.

  1. Mississippi
  2. Arkansas
  3. Alabama
  4. Missouri
  5. South Dakota
  6. West Virginia
  7. Kentucky
  8. Ohio
  9. Iowa
  10. Oklahoma
