It was the very last night of the I Worship Chaos Tour as Children of Bodom wrapped up their North American trek in New York City at a packed house in Irving Plaza.

For Finnish metalers Children of Bodom, the chaos ran from the start of the set to the very end. “Needled 24/7,” “Follow the Reaper” and “Living Dead Beat” got the blood pumping and crowdsurfers were swimming over the barricade faster than security could catch them. Despite the touring being named after their latest album I Worship Chaos, most of their set was made up of older songs.

In between, frontman Alexi Laiho wished fans a Merry Christmas and thanked them for coming out to the show. Riffs were shredded and lyrics were yelled to favorites “In Your Face” and “Angels Don’t Kill.” Towards the end of the night, Laiho took it back to 1997 as he performed “Lake Bodom” off of their debut album Something Wild, a suitable description of their die-hard fans.

Children of Bodom were supposed to play a very intimate show in Brooklyn at the smaller venue Warsaw but that show was canceled.  Fans at Irving Plaza enjoyed dynamic set, especially with the encore that included well known Bodom songs “Hate Me!” and “Downfall.” European tour dates are already in order for next year during March and April, celebrating 20 years of Children of Bodom.

Speaking of lengthy careers, for decades Olve Eikemo (also known as Abbath Doom Occulta) has been spewing  venom vocally with Immortal. Now he is spreading the doom with his new band Abbath, who have released their self-titled debut album earlier this year. The band took the stage before Children of Bodom and although half of their set was filled with new tracks like “Ashes of the Damned,” “Count the Dead" and “Winterbane,” the crowd got to hear some covers of Immortal favorites, too. The mosh pits intensified during Immortal tunes “One by One” and “Tyrants.” Eikemo is a showman and knows exactly how to entertain his fans, his silly faces also make him a sight to see live with Abbath.

California boys Exmortus unleashed their relentless set upon fans earlier on in the evening. Their thrashy riffs made for lots of headbanging and hair flying action. The band has been touring in support of their latest album Ride Forth. When they come to town be sure to check Exmortus out and prepare yourselves for a sore the next morning.

Progressive Canadian metal act Oni kicked off the night with their unique sound that includes the most metal xylophone ever. Within their brutal songs there’s a winding melody and lively energy. Check out photos of each band creating chaos at Irving Plaza in New York City in our gallery above.
