Morrissey Blames Opening Act for Canceled Tour

After a week of postponing and canceling shows, Morrissey finally pulled the plug on the whole tour late yesterday. But before you fire up the torches and grab the pitchforks, the singer wants you to know it's not his fault.

If you're going to get all mad at somebody for yet another canceled Morrissey tour, Morrissey says, blame his opening act, Kristeen Young, who the singer says spread the respiratory infection that led to the derailed U.S. tour.

On the True to You website, which serves as Morrissey's unofficial-official mouthpiece, the former Smiths frontman writes:

On Saturday, June 7th, following the show at Boston Opera House, Morrissey collapsed and was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where doctors treated Morrissey for "acute fever". Difficulties had arisen on May 31st following Kristeen Young's opening set at the Miami Knight Concert Hall, after which Kristeen confessed to "a horrendous cold", the symptoms of which were passed on to Morrissey resulting in the cancellation of the next show in Atlanta.
For the good of all, Kristeen was asked to step down from the immediate upcoming shows, but instead she decided to leave the tour entirely. Morrissey and the band wish her well and hope she is now in good health.
Morrissey received medical attention in Miami, and once again in Boston, but it was not enough to shake off the virus, the recovery time for which is too lengthy to meet the final 9 shows of the tour.

Young claimed that she suffered an allergy attack that lasted for about 16 hours, and said that she's not responsible for the canceled tour. In fact, she left the tour last week -- a move that's still being disputed as to whether or not she was pushed out.

In a since-deleted post on her Facebook page, Young wrote that not only did she not get Morrissey sick, she was asked to leave the tour by his booking agent. “I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well,” she wrote. “But I will not tolerate these lies ... particularly about my health.”

Last week, Morrissey began postponing shows in various cities, including Atlanta, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. He managed to play a concert in Boston last weekend, but earlier this week, two more shows were rescheduled. Then yesterday, the entire U.S. tour was scrapped.

In late 2012, Morrissey went through a similar situation, when he began canceling and postponing shows for various reasons. In the end, he ended up canceling that tour too last year.
