Kiev, Ukraine-based 4A Games has announced it will be expanding its game development capabilities by opening a second studio in in southern Europe.

4A Games has formally unveiled its plans to open up a second studio in Malta, making this new location its official headquarters. Chief members of 4A Games' Kiev studio, including creative director and company co-founder Andrew Prokhorov and chief technical officer Oles Shishkovstov, will be be relocating to the Mediterranean in order to recruit talent in Malta and to start running the new studio.

"This marks the start of a new chapter for 4A Games," Prokhorov said. "We are proud of our achievements as a young studio, and humbled by the response to our output so far. The team is looking forward to this new adventure."

The studio, primarily known for its work with Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light (based on the post-apocalyptic novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky), still plans to work on development from its original Kiev location. 4A Games claimed it will continue to work on unannounced titles taking place within the Metro universe along with new projects outside of the Metro franchise with its proprietary 4A Engine.

"By basing our new headquarters in Malta, a member state of the EU, 4A Games will be able to better compete on the international stage" said Dean Sharpe, 4A Games' new CEO and head of business development. "Malta offers fantastic incentives for game development, and we are confident 4A Games will be able to attract the very best talent from Ukraine, Malta and beyond."
