Happy Birthday today (March 5) to former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. He’s 48. Also celebrating today is keyboardist Alan Clark of Dire Straits (66).

John Frusciante was a member of Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1988-1992, and again from 1998-2009. He recorded five albums with the band including their breakthrough album Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Red Hot Chili Peppers formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The band has won seven Grammy awards and have sold over 80 million albums worldwide. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 but Frusciante did not attend the ceremony.  Alan Clark was the first and main keyboard player for Dire Straits. Clark joined the band in 1980 prior to the release of ‘Making Movies’ and was with the band up until their breakup in the mid-90’s. The band's 1985 album Brothers in Arms featuring the hit "Money for Nothing" spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
