Happy Birthday today (Dec. 12) to Bruce Kulick. The former Kiss guitarist is 63. Also celebrating Y&T singer/guitarist Dave Meniketti (63), guitarist Dan Hawkins of The Darkness (40), former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts (73) and former Jethro Tull drummer Clive Bunker (70).

Bruce Kulick was lead guitarist for Kiss from 1984-1996. He played on the albums Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, Revenge, and Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions. He also appears on the Alive 3 and Kiss Unplugged albums. I am a big fan of 80's Kiss myself (primarily the Bruce Kulick era.) I unfortunately never did get to see the band with Kulick on guitar but did get to see the band in different incarnations many times over the past twenty years beginning with the classic lineup reunion of Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter in 1996.  Since 2001, Kulick has been the guitarist for Grand Funk Railroad. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons formed Kiss out of New York City in 1973. The group rose to fame in the mid to late 1970’s with their elaborate stage shows. They have gone through many lineup changes throughout the years with Stanley and Simmons the only original members. The band’s original lineup consisted of Stanley on vocals and rhythm guitar, Simmons on vocals and bass, Ace Frehley on lead guitar, and Peter Criss on drums. The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide in their 40 plus year career. Kiss were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
