After a “spring cleaning” of sorts of the ‘America Idol‘ judges’ table, Fox has made the news official that R&B diva Mariah Carey will be coming on to judge the talent during the upcoming season 12.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that this decision has indeed been finalized, even though reports were leaking out that Carey was still in talks over her $12 million paycheck. (What? Too low, Mariah?) But it looks like Fox had to have her, as some media outlets are reporting she may be getting as high as $17 million.

“It’s the biggest recording artist than any of these shows have ever had,” stated Fox president Kevin Reilly in a press statement. “It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded only hours ago. Not being the only game in town we need to keep things fresh.”

Rumors were previously circulating about other potential ‘American Idol’ judges — including former contestant Adam Lambert — after both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler made the decision to leave the show, but Carey has reportedly always been at the top of the selection pool.

So, what do you think of your new ‘Idol’ judge? Will she be as nice and nurturing as Paula and J.Lo were, or will she have an edge like Brittney Spears seems to have on ‘X Factor‘? Let us know what you think in the comments.
