A police chase that started in Schenectady ends with a crash in Rotterdam. Now the three in the car are facing many, many charges.

The pursuit began in Schenectady around 6:30 pm Thursday, August 1st. Natasha Popolizio, 26, was behind the wheel with Margariata Lopez, 22, and a male teen as passengers as police pursued the vehicle for nearly 30 minutes.

The chase ended in Rotterdamn when Popolizio crashed into a Trust Co. Band. Police were on watch at the band all night as the damage left a gaping whole in the side of the bank. All three were treated at area hospitals before being taken into custody.

In total Popolizio faces upwards of 41 charges including

  • One count of Criminal Possession of a Narcotic in the 4th Degree,
  • Three counts of Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree,
  • One count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child,
  • One count of Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer,
  • One count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the 4th Degree,
  • One count of Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd Degree,

Time behind bars is nothing new to Popolizio who was released from jail in June after serving three years for felony first-degree Reckless Endangerment after trying to run-over a Johnston police officer.

Margariata Lopez faces one count of Criminal Possession of Narcotic 4th.

At the time of this post, there was no confirmed reasoning for why the chase started.
