I by no means consider myself to be a "religious" person, but I do still observe certain things from my Catholic upbringing.  Today is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent, and I am saying goodbye to soda until Easter.

There is nothing better than an ice cold Coke, or Pepsi, or Dr. Pepper, or Mello Yello.  Okay, I love soda, so it seems like an appropriate thing to give up for Lent.  In case you are someone who doesn't know what lent is, it's a time of the year where Christians, but mainly Catholics, give up something that they love from now (Ash Wednesday) until Easter Sunday.  You also don't eat meat on Fridays.

When I was a kid I would generally give up some sort of video game, but now that I'm an adult (sure), it's easier to give up some sort of bad-for-you food.  So this year it's soda.  I have been hitting the gym pretty hard these days, and seeing awesome results, so cutting out soda will no doubt add to my success in being more fit and healthy.

The countdown to Easter Sunday begins now, when I can once again grab an ice cold soda.  Though going without it for so long, I may not be so quick to grab for that, and instead some water.  Happy Lent everyone, yeah, I guess that's what you would say.
