Developers rejoiced when Microsoft came out with a Kinect for Windows, but now that there's a new version out, it will be discontinuing the last version.

Microsoft has been hard at work integrating their Kinect into the world of Xbox One, including selling a standalone version for Windows so that developers for the console can delve deeper than ever before. Now, it has come out with a new version of the Kinect for Windows and it has decided to discontinue the old version. Polygon reports that both versions come with a developer kit so that new game devs can utilize the Kinect's abilities in the best possible ways.

The Kinect for Windows team wrote the following on its blog: "The original Kinect for Windows sensor was a milestone achievement in the world of natural human computing. It allowed developers to create solutions that broke through the old barriers of mouse and keyboard interactions, opening up entirely new commercial experiences in multiple industries, including retail, education, healthcare, education, and manufacturing."

One good thing about the old Kinect being discontinued is that it ran for $50 more at $249, whereas the newer version only runs for $199.
