Because no one wants to spend time with their family and friends on Thanksgiving, K-Mart is adding themselves to the long list of stores opening on Thanksgiving Day and staying open through Black Friday. But they are they aren’t just opening in the evening. Nope, they will be open all day starting at 6 a.m.

What every happened to Black Friday specials on Black Friday at 4 a.m.? What happened to spending time with your family and being thankful for all you have? What happened? The almighty dollar happened.

Many stores have been opening earlier and earlier throughout the last couple of years to ensure they get your business-and it’s worked. Reports are coming out about stores opening in the early evening hours of Thanksgiving Day (see list below), while others are still sticking to the traditional midnight madness sales.

K-Mart has entered themselves in to the pool by announcing they will open at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and remain open for 41 straight hours.

Social media outrage was soon cued up after the announcement, with many saying they would boycott the store if they didn’t reverse their choice so that the employees could spend time with their families Thanksgiving Day.

Shame on you, Kmart. I will never set foot in any of your stores again (Facebook user Tracy Lane on K-Mart’s Facebook)

Maybe Kmart should have shown they are thankful for their loyal employees and let them be with their families on Thanksgiving. I realize you are a corporation and your goal is to make money…but sometimes you need to show and prove that people are important, too. (Jenn Tayrien)

Other companies in the pool of opening Thanksgiving Day include Toys ‘R Us, opening at 5 p.m., while J.C. Penney, Sears, Kohl’s, and Macy’s will open at 8 p.m.

This has been a hot topic for many people, including myself in recent years. For the last decade, my father has worked for a chain retail store, which will remain nameless, that has been open all day every Thanksgiving Day. My father has selflessly worked Thanksgiving every year, giving up his time with his family so that his employees wouldn’t. All for what? So the company he works for can make a few bucks before the “real sales” happen?

Next thing you know, Black Friday will be moved to the day after the 4th of July so the stores can get an even earlier start. The true meanings of the holidays are getting lost more and more every year.
