Despite Hall of Fame numbers, Mark McGuire and Rafael Palmeiro were denied access today by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.Palmeiro was picked on just 11 percent of the ballots and McGuire on 19 percent. Apparently the Baseball Writers of America only believe in backing a player when that player can help sell newspapers. These writers who vote for the hall are the same ones who used to put these guys on a pedestal when they were jacking home runs.
Now, since the truth has come out, they want to put these two in their place. Funny thing about that is we will never know how many juiced up pitchers Palmeiro and McGuire faced on their way to breaking records. Think about that when you talk about the steroid era. Yes hitters were bigger and stronger but so were the pitchers they faced.
