25 years ago the WWE Royal Rumble took place at the Knickerbocker Arena/Times Union Center, what made this event so historic?

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time by winning the Royal Rumble match and it was the first time that the winner of the Royal Rumble match would be crowned champion which made it the longest Championship Title match.

It was also the first time that Rowdy Roddy Piper would win a WWE Title when he defeated The Mountie for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

On a personal note: It was 25 years ago today that my mom took me down to the arena hours before the event started so that I could press my chubby nine year old face against the glass doors of the arena to get a peek at all the wrestlers, my folks could not afford tickets to the event so they did what they could just so I could catch a glimpse of my heroes. I remember how huge Earthquake looked when he was just a few feet away from me behind those doors, I remember the ugly sweat pants Ted Dibiase was wearing but most of all I remember that Ric Flair was wearing his robe hours before the event even started.

I told WWE Superstar Neville about all of this.

Later on I watched the Rumble on Pay Per View at a friends house but being able to see all the wrestlers before the event made it special for me. You can relive the 1992 Royal Rumble on Youtube or on the WWE Network but here are some clips from one of Albany's finest moments.
