Ill Nino Return to the Studio

Latin metal warriors Ill Nino will hit the studio to work on their sixth album next month. The band, which released ‘Dead New World’ via Victory Records in 2010, plans to release the as-yet untitled platter this summer. It is Ill Nino’s second effort for Victory after a long stint at Roadrunner and one album via the now-defunct Cement Shoes. This time out, Ill Nino are making a concerted effort to even further explore their Latin roots.

In a press release, singer Cristian Machado stated, “It’s 2012 and we’re all still alive. It’s time to redefine Latin metal.” Ill Nino’s entire career has been built around playing with Latin textures and tones within the context of hard rock and if there is any band out there that can rise to the challenge of redefining the genre, it’s Ill Nino.

Drummer Dave Chavarri also weighed in on the new album, saying, “This time around, we want to explore Latin and tribal rhythms we have never explored in the past five releases, giving us no musical boundaries at all.”

The album will be recorded in three different states, since the members are sprinkled across the country. Sessions are scheduled for Hoboken, N.J., Austin, Tex., and Denver, Col.
