Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela has died, according to reports from the AP, MSNBC, and CNN. Chavez was 58 years old. Since December, Chavez has been battling and unspecified cancer and had undergone at least four surgeries in Cuba.

Chavez has often been a thorn in the side for US officials, after he rose to power in the early 90s, after serving jail time for a coup. Chavez was the youngest president in the history of Venezuela, and was elected in 1998. Chavez had associations with many of America's enemies including Fidel Castro and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who he called his "ideological brother."
