Health Department Could Take 18 Months To Regulate Medical Marijuana

It was a hard push to get the Compassionate Care Act passed before the New York State Legislature ended for summer break. Now everything is in the hands of the Health Department and that could take some time.

In fact, they could take up to 18 months to regulate the entire thing. That, of course, has many worried. In the passed version of the bill, Governor Cuomo has the right to end the program at any time.

In the course of the next 18 months the Health Department will decide how to regulate the drug, how to license doctors to prescribe it, and how those who abuse the drug/system shall be punished.

After the program gets going Cuomo, himself, can revoke the license of a doctor if it's believed they are abusing the system or foul play is at hand.

Will it take the Health Department 18 months to get it all figured out? Let's be honest, with how slow some things move with our government; we aren't expecting much.
