Hannaford Supermarkets made a large, six-figure donation to a Capital Region area food bank this week.

According to The Saratogian, Hannaford presented the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York with a $150,000 check during a press conference on Wednesday at Heatly School in Green Island. Hannaford Supermarkets president Mike Vail said in a press release, "Hannaford has been successful in substantially increasing our donations of fresh food to local food pantries. This support builds on that work and addresses a critical need that our community partners understand well. Many families with children are stressed with meeting basic needs, including the essential need for nutritious food." The money will benefit the BackPack Program, which gives students in need a backpack filled with healthy foods prior to weekends and school breaks.

Kudos to Hannaford Supermarkets for doing such a great thing here, and helping out those in need here in the Capital Region area.
