At some point in most band's lives they take a classic tune and put their own spin on it. Covers can sort of be a band's rite of passage- once they are successful with their own music and have established themselves they then feel ready to take on old school favorites. This was the case with Richmond, Virginia quintet GWAR, who took on Kansas' 1976 hit "Carry On My Wayward Son." Watch the comical video below.

The cover session was made possible by The A.V. Club, which brings in well-known bands, gives them a list of 25 covers to choose from and then has them pick and perform their favorite in The A.V. Club studio in Chicago. However, GWAR had no choice in the matter, as they performed the last session of the year and "Carry On My Wayward Son" was the only song left on the list. I'm sure GWAR didn't mind- they could take any song and make it their own.

What do you think of the cover? Which version do you prefer?
