Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger Display Fuller Sound at Mountain Jam

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, the project led by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl, played a psychedelic set at Mountain Jam this afernoon, stretching their songs out and soaking in the vibes of the weekend-long festival.

The band seemed truly pleased with the audience – possibly a bit of a surprise, considering all of the jam-band headliners at the fest. "This is the biggest audience we've ever played for," Lennon said at one point. "That's pretty cool."

One highpoint was a thicker-sounding version of 'Animal,' a song from their latest album,'Midnight Sun.' Another tune developed into a thick jam lead by very adept guitar soloing by Lennon.

Much of the band's focus so far as been on developing its recorded work. Before their set today, Lennon talked about, among other things, the effort that went into creating cover art that looked good on both the vinyl and CD versions of 'Midnight Sun.'

But their live set proved that the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger may be an even better band onstage than they are on record.  Their layered sound and Lennon's assured guitar brought a more grounded element to the music.
