As of right now, professional Mixed Martial Arts is not legal in New York State. To that we say ‘boo’. The lovely ring card girls of Cage Wars are stepping up to help the cause. 

In order of appearance, Brittney J, ChelsieAryn and Jessica Storie are the girls who make sure that we know what round it is during these fights. Despite professional MMA being illegal in New York, amateur fights are still just fine, and that’s what they promote.

According to the Cage Wars/Five Guys Fighting Facebook page:

Five guys Fighting was started by five guys all interested and experienced in the fight game(from pro boxers, to jiu jitsu and everything in between). We wanted to bring the fights to the fans here in Upstate NY all the while taking care of each individual fighter.

 

I spoke with Cage Wars girl Chelsie Aryn, and she told me that they were going to do a special photo shoot to promote MMA in New York, and hopefully make more people aware and eventually get it to be legal. The past Cage Wars events have been very successful, and MMA is a sport that is growing in popularity day by day.

In a recent NY Post article, while the writer said many crude things about the fighters, interviewed MMA fighter Joseph Brady, who said that legalizing MMA in NY would provide more opportunity for the fighters, and boost the economy.

Cage Wars and Five Guys Fighting have a number of upcoming matches on the way, including one in Hudson, NY on April 20. You can get complete fight information, and tickets on the Cage Wars site. If you are interested in being a Cage Wars fighter, you can also get that information there, as well.

The majority of them were monarchs, but they were beautiful and I even got to see one emerge from its coocoon. It was a very warm environment and there was fruit all over the ehxibit for the brightly-colored beauties. If you want to check it out for yourself then do it now, because it will only be there until Sunday when it is taken down and “flown” to a new location.

We had the choice of everything from organic beer to beer with coffee in it. Peak Organic had a spectacular Hop Noir, which is an black IPA. We went back for seconds on this one – not sure if we were supposed to but it was good enough to break the rules for this one.

Another highlight for us were some of the offerings from our own back yard – the Adirondack Brewing Company had a Coffee ESB (Extra Special Bitter) and a barrel aged brown with ‘cocca nibs’. It was hard to leave their table but we had many others to sample too.

Beer week isn’t over yet – there is still a New York State of Mind event featuring New York beers and a Billy Joel tribute band (2/22) and also the Beer Summit is on Saturday 2/23. We always have some awesome beer in the area but we never have THIS MUCH AWESOME BEER in one place at the same time, so our suggestion – don’t miss it!

Among the samples was a keg that was actually a cake shaped like a keg that was also a keg. Make sense? You should have been there – it was one of the most glorious things ever because it’s cake that gives you beer. Yes – that dream came true and you missed it. Among the beers we sampled and loved were Brown’s IPA, Ithaca Flower Power IPA, Saranac Red IPA, Lake Placid Ubu Ale, and Davidson Bros IPA.

We started at the Salvation Army in Schenectady and worked our way to the Goodwill in Troy. There were 6 stores on our list, we made it to 4 before deciding to call it a day and have some drinks.

I am now making it a point to head out once a month to all the Thrift Stores in the area and keep a continuous blog about the findings.

Butcher Babies screamer Heidi Shepherd with her lovely smile, blonde locks and screaming ability was no match for local lovely Maria Brink. It’s all about loyalty, in my opinion. Who am I kidding: Maria is fire all day.

Donkey-Gate is now under way after Google released several images that depicts their Street View car running over a donkey in Botswana.

The company released a statement after outrage began to rise as the image (below) went viral. It shows the dirt kicking up and a donkey on the ground, presumably dead on the side of the road.

A company rep said in the statement “As our imagery below shows, the donkey was lying in the path – perhaps enjoying a dust bath – before moving safely aside as our car drove past. I’m pleased to confirm the donkey is alive and well”

Amazing how the fate of a donkey can get the internet in an uproar. Those who were mad, have you ever ran over a squirrel and didn’t stop? What about a cat or dog? I love the internet for the stupid things you can find but I hate for the faceless masses that cause a ruckus because they have nothing better to do with their time then re-post stupid things on Facebook.
