Happy Birthday today (Sept. 29) to former Grand Funk Railroad frontman Mark Farner. He’s 69. Other rockers celebrating include singer Taime Downe of Faster Pussycat (53), guitarist Alex Skolnick of Testament (49) and bassist Les Claypool of Primus (54).

Mark Farner formed Grand Funk Railroad in 1968 with Don Brewer and Mel Schacher. Grand Funk Railroad is best known for 1970’s hits “We’re an American Band” and “Closer to Home (I’m Your Captain)” among others. For more on Mark Farner, check out his official website here.

Taime Downe is singer for 80’s glam metal band Faster Pussycat. Faster Pussycat were on Elektra Records and sold over 500,000 copies of their second album Wake Me When It’s over which featured the hits “Poison Ivy” and the ballad “House of Pain.” The band had several videos in rotation on MTV and toured with Y&T, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Kiss, David Lee Roth, and many others.
