On this weeks Free Advice Friday some advice on how to avoid paying the tax man even more than he already takes...

The deadline is fast approaching to file your 2017 taxes! Generally speaking taxes are due on the 15th of April with the exception of the last couple of years as well as this year. So *party bonus* we have a couple of extra days to file this year and you don't have to have your taxes filed technically until Tuesday, April 17th because 1.) April 15th is on a Sunday and 2.) apparently Washington D.C. has a local holiday on Monday. According to CNBC,

The nation's capital celebrates Emancipation Day to mark the date that President Abraham Lincoln freed slaves there in 1862. While it's a local holiday, it affects when taxes are due.
