A very feel-good story of four brave men and women that not only defend our country but will now compete and represent the USA.

When the Olympics begin in just a few short weeks in Pyeongchang, South Korea, a few New Yorkers will be competing for the US. Those are not just regular individuals, which to be honest, no Olympian is, to begin with. These four men and women are members of the New York Army National Guard.

  • Sgt. Emily Sweeney, 24
  • Sgt. Matthew Mortensen, 32
  • Sgt. Justin Olsen, 30
  • Sgt. Nick Cunningham, 32

Keep your eyes peeled on the Luge and Bobsled events to see them compete. Sgt. Sweeney and Mortensen will be a part of the Luge team vying for gold and Sgt. Olsen and Cunningham to set their sights for the Bobsled gold.

It should also be noted that Sgt. Jacob Hyrns just missed out on the chance to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics as apart of the Luge team by just a few hundredths of a second.
