Five People You May Not Know Are Second City Alumni
Second City has been around since 1959 and is one of the first improvisational theater troupes in the nation. It's well known as a breeding ground for future comedy superstars, and more or less directly feeds new talent to SNL. Here are some of our favorites who were once part of Second City.
Chris Farley is a Saturday Night Live legend best known for his performances as Matt Foley, a Chippendales dancer, and a Chicago Bears superfan, as well as performances in films such as Tommy Boy and Wayne's World.
Tina Fey was a mainstay on Saturday Night Life from 1997-2006, and has moved on to NBC's 30 Rock. She has featured in numerous films, and is maybe best known for her impression of Sarah Palin.
Amy Poehler spent her time at Second City with Fey, and moved up to SNL with her. Since, she has found a home on NBC's Parks and Recreation, as well as a number of film appearances.
Joan Rivers is not a name that is currently associated with improv and sketch comedy, but believe it or not, she was once a part of the troupe. She is now famous for getting plastic surgery.
Dan Aykroyd is another Saturday Night Live legend who moved on to the silver screen. His most notable accomplishments are serving as a Blues Brother and a Ghostbuster.
