EA Sports UFC Trailer: Come Out Swinging

EA has released the first gameplay video for its upcoming fighter, EA Sports UFC, featuring a Lightweight Championship bout between Anthony Pettis and Jose Aldo.

In addition to a full five-minute round of fighting, the video shows off EA Sports UFC’s impressive broadcast presentation, which is accurate down to the way announcer Bruce Buffer wedges his microphone under referee Yves Lavigne’s arm during the reading of the rules. Likewise, the game’s commentary, delivered by Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan, feels natural and realistic, and reacts well to changes in the fight.

The fighters themselves look amazingly realistic. Every tattoo on both competitors are perfectly accurate, and even Jose Aldo’s facial scar is spot-on. The jump to next-gen systems is fairly evident in the way fighters are rendered, but the real wow-factor comes from the game’s animations. Kicks, punches, and even subtler motions play out in an extremely realistic fashion and react to strikes exactly as they should. EA has focused heavily on the way fighters move, and their efforts have definitely paid off.

With EA Sports UFC due for a June 17 release, we’re sure to see more gameplay trailers in the coming weeks. Hopefully we’ll see some footage of later rounds, which may show off another of the game’s touted features; real-time body deformations.
