Former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan was one of the crowd members at the Seattle area stop of the current Mayhem Festival tour. McKagan has a column at Seattle Weekly and took the opportunity to write about his Mayhem Fest experience.

McKagan revealed himself to be a huge fan of many 2012 Mayhem Fest bands within his writing. “With Anthrax, Motorhead, Asking Alexandria, Slayer, and the mighty Slipknot in town, there was no way I could NOT go to this thing (if you rock and Motorhead is playing anywhere within a 100-mile radius, it is your duty to go . . . or you are not so “rock” after all . . . unless your daughter has a ballet recital, of course . . . or your wife reminds you that it’s date night),” writes McKagan.

McKagan gave special mention to Anthrax and the band’s massive re-emergence, Slayer for their “mean as hell” live performance and Motorhead, who McKagan referred to as, “The best. The gnarliest. The funniest. The loudest.” In fact, McKagan joined Motorhead for a performance of ‘Killed by Death’ at the show. Watch the video below.

The bassist also gave top accolades to the Mayhem headliners Slipknot. Citing the 2010 passing of bassist Paul Gray, McKagan was totally amped during Slipknot’s performance, commending the band for their strength to endure. “Slipknot are back in a big way. They have a huge worldwide audience that will seemingly forever support this endeavor.”
