The Yankees prevail in extra innings; The Mets get burned by the Rockies twice in one day; NHL playoffs are red hot; A new PGA tour record set by golfer and it's not the good kind.

Thursday was chock full of drama in the world of sports.  The Yankees almost fell into more trouble thanks to another shaky start from Phil Hughes, but the bullpen and some big at bats helped the Yanks to a 6-5 win over Baltimore.  Bartolo Colon is becoming the clean up guy for Hughes who continues to give up big runs early.  Joba Chamberlain was also fantastic and thanks to his big effort and a solo homer from Jorge Posada the game was tied and went into extra innings.  A-Rod also has a good night going 3-3 at the plate and an RBI.  The bombers get the 2 game sweep of the Orioles.  No make up date scheduled for the rained out game from Wednesday.

Rough couple of days for the New York Mets who have a bit of trouble with the Colorado Rockies.  In a double header yesterday the Mets weren't able to contain Colorado in the late innings.  Rockies would take the early game 6-5.  That loss going to RA Dickey who is now 1-2 this season.  The second game was not much better for the Mets who get roughed by Troy Tulowitzki once again.  He homered in both games yesterday and the day before.  Chris Capuano gave up 7 runs in the Mets 9-4 loss in the second game of the day.  So far this season the Mets are off to a slow start at 4-9 and open up a series against their NL East rival, the Atlanta Braves tonight.  The Braves are coming off a loss to the Marlins who are currently in second place behind the red hot Philadelphia Phillies.  I know it's only early yet, but the Mets need to get going or they are going to be playing catch up for the rest of the season.

The chase for the 2011 Stanley Cup has begun and already the playoffs are off to a fantastic start.  The Buffalo Sabers start off their series against the East leading Philadelphia Flyers with a 1-0 shut out.  Ryan Miller was fantastic against a very dangerous Flyers team, he has 35 saves.  The Rangers drop their first game to the Washington Capitals but have a shot at redemption tonight in game 2.  The Chicago Blackhawks who won the cup last year are most likely not escaping the first round.  They are shut out by the Canucks on Wednesday and will go against them again tonight but Vancouver is by far the better team in the series.  A little over time action last night in San Jose, but the Sharks escape with a 3-2 win over the Kings.  My prediction for the Championship round would have to be the Capitals and Sharks with the Caps taking it all.  It's about time Ovechkin got to hold the cup.

Man I thought that I have had a bad day on the golf course, but Kevin Na makes me think that maybe I have a shot on the PGA tour.  Na already has a reputation of playing rather slowly but yesterday and the Texas Open he really took a long time.  He scored a 16 on the 9th hole.  A 16!  That is unreal for a professional golfer.  I thought Rory McIlroy had a break down at the Masters, this one is way more epic.  It took him 12 shots to get out of the woods where he kept slicing the ball continually.  You could tell he was frustrated too because he even threw the club after his second tee off. The 16 is the highest score ever recorded at a PGA event.  I think we all have trouble now and then but even I have never scored that high.
