Every single member of this Dallas Mavericks team has been waiting for this moment for a long time, but they can finally say they are the NBA champions.

What a big moment for the Dallas Mavericks.  For the last 5 years they have been waiting for redemption for the 2006 NBA finals when they blew a 2-0 lead.  My oh my how things have changed.  This team was on a mission this post season.  Well, mission accomplished.

They closed out the Miami Heat in game 6 of the finals with a 105-95 win.  Dirk Nowitzki was named the MVP of the finals, but it was Jason Terry who stepped up for Dallas last night.  He scored 27 points to help build a lead for Dallas that Miami didn't really have an answer for.  Dirk had 21 last night while JJ Barea added 15.  This Dallas team has been waiting for this moment for a long time now, and some more than others.

Jason Kidd, who has been in the league for 17 years and had previously came up short in 2 finals appearances with the New Jersey Nets, wins his first ring in one of his final years in the league.  This also solidifies the great careers of players like Shawn Marion and Peja Stojakovic.  Most importantly it helps  add the last rung of the career ladder that Dirk Nowitzki has been climbing since being drafted in 1998.  This adds closure for some people, and has made one Mark Cuban a very happy owner.  A lot of people were probably curious as to why Dirk ran off the court so abruptly after the closing seconds.  Well the video below shows exactly why.  He was totally overcome with emotion, and needed to collect himself a bit.  Totally understandable.

So what does this mean for the Miami Heat?  Before they even started the season they boasted about how this was the start of a dynasty and a dozen championships were on the way.  Now granted, it was year one of the big three so they could very well bounce back with a couple championship seasons, but before that they have a lot of maturing to do.

In classic Lebron James fashion, he up and left the court after the closing seconds.  A real jerk move that he is famous for these days.  If I were Dwyane Wade I would be embarrassed in the way that I carried myself during game 6.  He was off his game and as the "leader" of the team he needed to show poise and maturity more than anyone else, but he didn't.  Arguing with the refs and getting a technical foul near the end of the game just contributed to that Dallas lead.  So are things over for the Heat?  No way.  As much as I can't stand them, they have a lot of talent.  Now they just need to build around the big three accordingly.
